ASI Renovations — Independent Contractor FAQ (2025 Edition)


  • 1. Am I an employee of ASI Renovations?

    No. You are an independent contractor, not an employee. You’re free to take on other clients and projects.

  • 2. Who do I report to?

    All communication and decisions go through Anthony Guarneri.

    Only Anthony can change customer contracts or project scopes.

  • 3. Can I talk directly to ASI’s customers?

    No. Do not discuss work details, pricing, or scheduling with customers.

    All customer communication must go through Anthony.

  • 4. Can I recruit ASI’s clients or subcontractors?

    No. You may not solicit work from ASI’s customers or recruit subcontractors from active ASI projects.

  • 5. What paperwork do I need?

    You must complete and submit a W-9 form before starting work.

  • 6. When does billable time start and stop?

    • Starts: when you arrive and begin work at the first job site.
    • Stops: when you finish work at the last site of the day.
    • Lunch breaks (30–60 min) and personal calls over 20 minutes must be deducted.
  • 7. How do I submit my hours?

    Each week, send a simple breakdown showing:

    • Job address
    • Day worked
    • Arrival & departure times
    • Deductions for lunch/personal breaks
    • Short note on what you did

    Example:

    Mon 1/23 – 123 Main St 9:30 AM – 4:30 PM (– 30 min lunch, – 20 min call) = 6 hrs 10 min Framing/Drywall

  • 8. When do I get paid?

    Payments are typically issued the following week for the prior week’s work (about 7 days later). If we can pay sooner, we will.

  • 9. What if I can’t work a scheduled day?

    Text Anthony as soon as possible.

    Example: “No me tomorrow.”

    Three no-call/no-shows may result in removal from projects.

  • 10. When should I take lunch?

    Anytime between 11 AM – 1 PM is standard. Take 30 minutes to 1 hour as needed.

  • 11. How will I be paid?

    Payments are made electronically via Cash App, PayPal, Venmo, or Zelle.

  • 12. What kind of projects does ASI do?

    We handle medium-sized home and light commercial remodels in Tompkins County, typically:

    • $2 K – $25 K range
    • 2 days – 4 weeks duration
    • Turn-key, lump-sum pricing
    • Weekly progress billing

    We focus on fair pricing, clear communication, and solid workmanship.

  • 13. What tools should I bring?

    Contractors must have their own basic tools, including:

    • Tape measure, pencil, sharpie, screw gun, circular saw, razor knife
    • Screwdrivers, hammer, pry bar, pliers, level, chalk box, speed square
    • Adjustable wrench, putty knife, caulk gun, work bag
    • Safety gear: sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, water bottle, rags
  • 14. What’s the expected appearance and conduct?

    We often work inside family homes — professionalism matters.

    You must look and act clean, respectful, and mature:

    • Clean clothes (no rips, stains, or offensive slogans)
    • No odor of alcohol, drugs, animals, or poor hygiene
    • No erratic or sulking behavior

    If you appear unprofessional or disruptive, you will be asked not to return.

  • 15. Can I suggest better ways to do something?

    Yes — suggestions are welcome.

    If Anthony approves, great. If not, move on. No arguing or pushback.

  • 16. What overrides all of these rules?

    Safety.

    Any safety concern takes priority over all other guidelines.

Welcome to ASI Renovations! This page explains how we operate with independent contractors and what’s expected on our projects. Please review carefully before your first job.

1. Employment Status

You are an independent contractor, not an employee. You may take on other clients or projects outside of ASI.

2. Reporting

Do not discuss pricing, schedules, or job details with customers. Direct all questions and updates through Anthony.

4. Solicitation

You may not solicit work from ASI’s clients or recruit subcontractors from active ASI projects.

5. Paperwork

Submit a completed W-9 form before starting work.

6. Billable Time

  • Starts when you arrive and begin work at the first site.
  • Stops when you finish work at the last site.
  • Deduct lunch (30–60 min) and personal calls beyond 20 minutes.

7. Time Reporting

Each week, send a breakdown including job address, days worked, start/end times, and short notes on tasks.

 Example:
Mon 1/23 – 123 Main St – 9:30 AM–4:30 PM

8. Payment Schedule

Invoices are paid the following week for prior work (about 7 days later). Sooner if possible.

9. Attendance

If you can’t work a scheduled day, text Anthony ASAP. Three “no-call/no-shows” may result in removal from projects.

10. Lunch

Take lunch anytime between 11 AM and 1 PM, 30–60 minutes is typical.

  • Typical project size: $2,000 – $25,000
  • Duration: 2 days – 4 weeks
  • Turn-key pricing with weekly progress billing

13. Tools Required

Please bring your own basic tools, including:

Tape measure, pencil, sharpie, screw gun, circular saw, razor knife, hammer, pry bar, screwdrivers, pliers, level, chalk box, speed square, wrench, caulk gun, putty knife, tool bag, safety glasses, sun hat, sunscreen, water bottle, rags.

14. Appearance & Conduct

We work in family homes—professional appearance and behavior are required:

  • Clean clothing, no large rips or stains
  • No offensive slogans or smells (alcohol, drugs, pets, poor hygiene)
  • Maintain respectful, mature behavior at all times

15. Suggestions

Suggestions for improvement are welcome. If approved, great—if not, move on without argument.

16. Safety

Safety always comes first and overrides any other guideline.
